TheatrePEI’s “God, I Hope I Get It” Audition Workshop
This two-day intensive workshop will focus on the worst part of the actor’s experience - auditioning for the job.
This fun, on-your-feet, interactive performance course will examine the practical aspects of auditioning for theatre and camera acting jobs including:
· Who are these people? - the audition panel
· What do I wear? - dressing for the experience
· Who’s in my headshot? - resume and photo considerations
· Does Hamlet lisp? - choosing appropriate monologues
· How do you pronounce that? - cold read survival
· Can I sing Happy Birthday? - Musical auditions for singers and non-singers
· How do you do? - Audition conduct and etiquette
· Where do I stand? Where do I look? - technique for camera auditions
· Can you repeat that? - reacting to advice and direction
Divided into two segments, the “God I Hope I Get It” audition workshop will feature a 3 hour session on Friday and a 4 hour session Saturday. Participants will be assigned a SHORT monologue during the Friday session which they will be expected to have MEMORIZED for the Saturday session (modern language - no Shakespeare!)
Participants comfortable with singing may bring a selection from their musical theatre repertoire to share. ALL participants will be expected to - at least - attempt to sing, though the musical audition segment is a minor part of the over-all experience. Participants must understand that this workshop is designed as an opportunity for mistake-making and face-reddening. The objective is to overcome obstacles now in order to facilitate success in future auditions. There will be some movement involved. Comfortable clothes and practical shoes are strongly urged.
