Music At The Marketplace

“Music At The Marketplace” begins its third week of musical entertainment with more guest artists.

On Friday November 18 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Stephen Pate will entertain. Stephen has been a regular performer in the Charlottetown area over the past two years. He sings and accompanies himself on guitar, harmonica, banjo, and mandolin with a repertoire of Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, folk and popular tunes. Stephen has studied guitar, voice, piano, and clarinet and has been playing and singing for over 40 years.


Also on Friday November 18 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Kevin Ryan will take the stage. Kevin Ryan is known by pockets of loyal fans across the country as a songwriter whose music strikes an immediate rapport with listeners with its down-to-earth warmth, honesty, and insight. His thought-provoking lyrics and tasteful hooks have touched a wide range of audiences over the years.

Kevin delivers his songs in a straight ahead folk rock style and finds his comfort zone on stage armed only with his acoustic guitar, with his songs displaying either a sensitive or intense vocal performance. He is happy to be resettled on his summer savory farm in South Pinette after having lived in six different provinces over the last several years. He is planning to record his third album this winter.

Saturday November 19 will feature student performers this week. At 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, catch rising star Courtney Francis. Courtney is a 12 year old aspiring singer/actress from Charlottetown. She has studied piano, voice, dance and theatre for 7 years and has built up a substantial resume for her age. She presently can be seen in The Strike At Putney Church at the Arts Guild in Charlottetown from November 17-19 and 24-27. For her appearance at the Marketplace, Courtney will be performing contemporary folk and pop material, including some original songs, accompanied by her father, Wayne on guitar. 

Then on Saturday November 19 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, the student performances continue with Charity Visser and Christie Mowbray. Charity Visser, a resident of New.Glasgow, Nova Scotia.is a first year voice major at the University of Prince Edward Island..She has been singing since the age of four and has sung in several places including the Maritimes, Quebec, Northwest Territories and Mexico..Charity also plays the piano and guitar and has been competing in music festivals for 13 years. Christie Mowbray is a first year piano major at the University of Prince Edward Island… She grew up in Kensington, PEI has been playing piano for six years and enjoys performing..

“Music At The Marketplace” is downtown Charlottetown’s newest performance venue which provides the public with opportunites to hear live music during lunch and on weekends. Pianist Glen MacEachern can be heard every Monday to Friday weekly from 12:00 noon until 1:15PM. Bruce MacNaughton and his team have plans underway to create extended hours of entertainment during the Christmas season to showcase young talented music students of Prince Edward Island.
