Fundamentals of Truthful Acting

PEI Theatre Festival Workshops
Fundamentals of Truthful Acting with Duncan McIntosh

A theatre technician once said to me - I know how to build a set, a costume, a lighting plot -  in fact, everything you need in the theatre. The one thing I don’t know how to build is a character. This workshop is an introduction to building a character.

Every actor needs to find their own method to create a character on the stage. But with all of the various methods -  almost as many as there are actors - it can be difficult to know where to start to improve your process as an actor. There are, however, landmarks to be found in the process of acting and helpful vocabulary to use. These ideas can improve your process and your performance no matter what your process is. Understanding objectives, units, tactics, given circumstances, positive primary impulses, subjective analysis -  all of these ideas will be described, used and tried out by the participants in this three hour workshop.

Participants will find ways to develop their own pattern in the making of characters which come alive in rehearsal on the stage. No matter what your level of experience, this is a fun, informative, practical workshop for people who are interested in acting.
