Guadalcanal -  the Christmas letter ... This years big personal news, of course, is that were in the South Pacific. A reminder of how that came about ... A year ago we mentioned to the PEI rep for CUSO (the volunteer-sending organization with whom we went to Malawi and Malaysia in the late 60s/early 70s) that we could be interested in going overseas when we retired. She said: Give me a resum and Ill start looking—it can take a year or a year and a half to find a good match.  So I did that in February, a bit after turning 60. webmaster 12/01/05 0

Happy Halloween! Last night, in fact, our Canadian CUSO gang got together at our house for a party carved a jack-o-lantern, dressed up as beach-goers, bobbed for mangoes and starfruit (instead of apples), ate a stuffed-pumpkin dish, told a ghost story or two, and gave out treat-bags. Weve been here on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands for almost two months, and of course we now have a somewhat larger (though still limited) stock of experience than we had when I wrote about a month ago. webmaster 11/01/05 0

Support CBC!  Artists rally today! Thursday, Sept. 22 at noontime, PEI’s writers and musicians and artists and actors—and anyone interested in the arts   are invited to join the CBC line in support of our locked-out friends at the CBC. As artists, we’re especially feeling the loss of our local CBC, since our book launches and concerts and interviews—basically, the stories about US!—are NOT getting heard. Let’s take this opportunity to protest what CBC management is doing to our beloved CBC. For the good of our community, let’s make our voices heard. And, if you can, bring an item for the food bank, as—in typical CBC Prince Edward Island fashion—it’s a food drive as well. webmaster 09/22/05 0
