ACT - out
Come celebrate the Christmas season! A festive ACT-Out evening is planned for Friday, December 10th.
The evening will start at 6:30 p.m. with great conversation and food at “five eleven west” at Credit Union Place, 511 Notre Dame St in Summerside. From there, we’ll be heading to the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre to enjoy the Fandango Musical Players’ production of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
Theatre tickets are $25.00 pp and can be ordered by phone at (902) 888-2500 or (800) 7080-6505, or online at https://www.harbourfront.summerside.ca/TheatreManager/133/online. Don’t be disappointed – order your tickets ASAP!
If you plan to join us for pre-theatre dinner, please contact Margaret McEachern at email@example.com by December 2nd. She will be making a group reservation.
If anyone is interested in carpooling from the Charlottetown area, please let Margaret know by e-mail by December 2nd. We will arrange a meeting time and location.
Merry Christmas and Bah, humbug to everyone!
Calling for participants for the PEI Community Theatre Festival, March 2011
This is just a little follow-up to our suggestion, back in September, that your theatre group might consider participating in the PEI Community Theatre Festival.
The Festival takes place next March 25/26th. That will be the 50th anniversary of UNESCO’s World Theatre Day—an appropriate occasion for local amateur groups, young and old, to get together to share plays and have some fun. We’ll have an experienced adjudicator to give constructive feedback and present awards—last year it was Wade Lynch. There’ll also be refreshments.
Last year’s Festival at the Victoria Playhouse was a grand success, with three groups, more than 30 active participants, and an audience of 175. We want to double that this year.
What’s wanted is a short play or excerpt—anything up to 40 minutes. It can be a piece of any kind: comedy, classic, avant garde, home-made, whatever. This seems like a good chance to ‘warm up’ a play which is planned for later in the season, or to reprise an earlier production.
There’s little or no cost for the theatre troupe. We provide the venue and a technician to serve any sound-and-lighting requirements you might have. You make your own arrangements about rights, costuming, set, props and transportation.
There’s plenty of time—about three months—to get a play ready. But we’re getting back in touch now because we need to know about tentative participants by December 15th, so that we can plan the number of performance evenings and the venues. Then we’d need to have definite confirmation by January 15th.
Would you please take a few moments now to write a note back or give us a call to ask any questions, and to tell us whether or not you’re making plans to join in the Festival.
It’s going to be a lot of fun. We sure hope you can take part.
