Seeking Volunteers

Dear Set Builders,

Brenda MacIssac-Gallant, a teacher from Kensington Intermediate School, has called seeking volunteers to assist with the set (design and building) for their play “The Return of the Glass Slipper.”  Different sets are required including small shops that the characters walk through in the town and may include painted paper backdrops.  Brenda is hoping that volunteers will work with the students to build the set.  The show will be staged in mid to late May.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact Brenda at Kensington Intermediate School 836-8900.

Thanks,

Dawn

Samuel French Canadian Playwrights Contest - 2004 Winner

The winner of the 2004 contest is Queen Milli of Galt by Gary Kirkham.
A lovely romantic comedy with a handy supply of humor, this play is a genuinely witty exploration of unexpected love.  In 1972, the Duke of Windsor (Edward VIII) dies while living in exile at the age of 78.  Two weeks later in Canada, an 80 year old woman from a small town named Galt has her tombstone engraved, claiming to be his wife.  A young journalist appears at her door, eager for answers.  Flashback to 1919 as Edward, then holding the official title of the Prince of Wales, visits Canada as an emissary of the King.  Bored with the pomp and circumstance, he slips away from his official duties and begins a romance with a charming young woman…

Culture Caf on Small Islands - Small Acts

Culture Caf on Small Islands - Small Acts: Island Communities Within a Globalizing World
The public is invited to attend a free Culture Caf called Small Acts: Island Communities Within a Globalizing World on Wednesday, February 23, at 7 p.m., at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery.

On December 26, 2004, tsunamis caused by earthquakes killed more than 150,000 people around the Indian Ocean, including on Andaman Islands, Hafun, the Maldives, the Nicobar Islands, Phuket, the Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Sumatra. Once again putting islands on the map and agenda globally, such large-scale disasters and smaller-scale incidents like the storm surges that have devastated coastal areas locally are reminders of the vulnerability of islands to natural disasters and the challenges that isolated geographies face when dealing with risk and disasters.

Lend Me a Tenor - Tickets on sale now

<table><tr><td valign=“top”>image</td>
<td>Here comes the first week of March already ...

Get ready to laugh away the winter blahs with a somewhat naughty farce!
Lend Me a Tenor is the play. il Stupendo is the worlds sexiest tenor, but this is definitely not an opera. Its a hilarious comedy full of mistaken identity and misunderstandings, side-splitting gag lines, frenzied comings-and-goings as two lusty young women chase after a man who may, or may not, be il Stupendo.
Theres a doors-and-drawers flourish of colour: the astonishing art-deco set with its six doors ... and the flash of 30s costumes, right down to the mint-green knickers! </td></tr></table>

Please send a message to Prime Minister Martin

Dear Gerry:

Over the past few weeks, thousands of Canadians have written to Prime Minister Martin to urge his government to build a new CBC firmly rooted in communities across the country.  At the same time, we have brought pressure to bear on CBC management to respect its mandate under the Broadcasting Act to serve the special needs of Canada’s regions.

Together, weve created tremendous pressure thats hard to ignore.  And our efforts are paying off!
