Major Role for Summerside Area Resident in Jesus Christ Superstar

A number of Summerside area residents have been commuting to Charlottetown all summer rehearsing for what is the must-see production of the season for those who enjoy theatre, for those who appreciate music, song and dance, and for those who reflect on the meaning of Jesus, his passion, and the Christian story.

It is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the most audacious production of the Tim Rice and Lloyd Webber duo, says Shirley Anne Cameron the music director and Summerside area resident. In the early 70s it was a production that made us feel cool to be Christian. Today it is still a hip musical!

Pre-Production Superstar Stories

Bet you didn’t realize that there were 80 people directly involved in mounting ACT’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar. That’s pretty impressive!! There is almost exactly the same number of people involved in the show ‘off-stage’ as ‘on-stage’. Without them, the show just wouldn’t go on. And these off-stage folks donate their time without the attraction of potential applause on-stage performers expect to receive.

With this in mind, I have asked Rebecca to do some pieces for our website. I think it would be good for all of us to be more aware of all the people working on our show.

So, don’t be surprised if you get a call or an email from Rebecca. Let her know what you are doing and maybe even send her a photograph if you have one. Then check the site frequently to read (and / or see) about yourself and others in this super Superstar production!!!

Musical Asks Who Is Jesus?

The story of Jesus continues to touch deeply raw emotions and beliefs. Christians and non-Christians alike continue to ask questions about the historical Jesus: who was this Jesus anyway? Was Jesus man? Was Jesus God? Or, was/is he both?

Charlottetowns ACT (a community theatre) is staging this November Jesus Christ Superstar, a production that also poses questions central to considering Jesus and the impact the Jesus story has had on the world. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rices powerful music and lyrics carry one to a new understanding and appreciation of this central Christian story.

Right and Wrong

Review by Patrick Ledwell (October Buzz)

T. S. Eliots Murder in the Cathedral is, among other things, a drama about whether or not intentions determine the outcome. Locating us in the strife between church and state in 12th century England, Eliot shows soon-to-be-saint Thomas Becket pressing outside his spiritual authority as archbishop, much to the irritation of his former friend King Henry II. As martyrdom nears, Becket wonders aloud whether this outcome is Gods will or emanates from his own intentions on immortality: The last temptation is the greatest treason / To do the right deed for the wrong reason.
