Lighting Design

Have spoken with Paul Druet and confirmed his availability to design JC Superstar. He asked if we were going to use the thrust. I told him I didn’t think that was going to be on the boards.

Choreography

Spoke with Julia Sauve to confirm our offer for her to do JC Superstar. She is looking forward to the challenge and has already been speaking to Allie. She is not sure how much Allie wants choreographed.

Julia would like to take an active part in the auditions. Unless Allie has geat concern about this, I agree. After all, I don’t think there would be any problem at all having some folks who were mainly, even specifically, dancers!!

Publicity

Spoke with Rob Thomson. He has agreed to take on OverSeer role for publicity. He has agreed conditional on the fact that he will not be available in and around audition time (end of May / beginning of June). That shouldn’t be a problem. I have spoken to Mike Wedge and he has tentatively accepted an offer to join our publicity team

A Home, Thanks to Terry

Terry Pratt has shown that he is a generous fellow, a very generous man indeed.  But he has also shown, once again, his commitment and initiative to provide leadership within ACT.

Terry Pratt has shown that he is a generous fellow, a very generous man indeed.  But he has also shown, once again, his commitment and initiative to provide leadership within ACT.

We’re talking about The Beach House* now ACT’s full-time headquarters.

Year after year the people who make ACT’s shows happen have found that the biggest and most frustrating difficulty has been the lack of a space where we could construct the sets, collect the costumes, keep the left-over materials, store the reusable set pieces and costumes.  Now we’ve got that space.  It will even give us a pretty good spot for running rehearsals and holding meetings.  And it is right in town.

Beach House Gets a Coat of Paint

ACT’s new warehouse gets a fresh coat of paint and looks forward to future activities.

There was a lot of activity this past Saturday down at ACT’s new warehouse. Our new facility, already being referred to as ‘The Beach House’, was given a fresh coat of paint. Most of the superfluous benches and counters had already been removed and moved into the back room over the last few weeks. Same with most of the electric outlet plates. Only the office and washroom still had lighting fixtures, mirrors, cabinets and outlets needing to be removed. Ben took care of these easily on Saturday morning before he left.

Set / Costume Design

I spoke with Anne Putnam this morning. It turns out that she trained in design but hasn’t had much opportunity to use it. She was very interested, but wanted to have time to think about it. She wants to listen to the show and get together with Allie. She understands that Allie is in ‘Wiz’ mode but would like some time to talk with him. I told her I would set it up. It needs to be before Feb 15 as she is heading off to stage manage for Theatre New Brunswich.

I confirmed with her that we couldn’t offer her any money. She said she thought we occasionally paid honourariums to Directors etc. I told her that, to date, no director had ever been given an honourarium and that the principle was based on if we ask someone to do something that is they normally do (ie Paul / Lighting, Julia / Choreography) then we can justify the honourarium. She said she understood and appreciated the opportunity to do something she normally wouldn’t get a chance to do.

She wanted to know if we were asking her to design the costumes as well. I said I knew we had a wardrobe team in place but wasn’t sure if they already had a costume designere.

So it looks like Superstar has its designer!
