Sean McQuaid’s review of 1837: The Farmers’ Revolt found in the Buzz

May 1999—Pity the poor theatre reviewer. In an outing all too typical of my sumnambulistic social life, I spent an entire Friday evening hanging out with dead folks. Actually, they did the hanging, gallows style. And the shooting, and the drinking, and the laughing, and the brandishing of pitchforks. I just sat there and watched ‘em, suitably impressed by the liveliest bunch of dead people I’d seen in ages. Such was the stuff of ACT’s latest theatrical production, Rick Salutin’s 1837: The Farmer’s Revolt.
